By the time you see this, dear reader, the three of us will be waiting in line to pick up our Otakon badges (albeit perhaps at different places in said line). Yay? And, hopefully, the presentation we’re meant to deliver on Friday should mostly be done by then. Hopefully.
Perhaps you’re in that line, too, even as you read this. In that case, I invite you to seek us out and bequeath your comments upon us in person.

Miyafuji/Perrine, amirite?
Which is to say, welcome to another installment of our most self-sacrificing of team features! This episode was kind of boring, I think. But fear not — such things have never stopped us before. And, anyway, if the next episode preview is to be believed, great things await us just ahead. We need only reach them.

As I remembered this show being incredible, and as it’s on my list of things to buy at Otakon, I figured I’d give Toradora! another watch to fill in what holes exist in my memory. And because things like random rewatches basically mean free blog content, I decided to take some notes as I watched.
Said notes ended up longer than expected, so I’ll have to split them into three parts. I invite you to take advantage of the lag time between posts to rewatch Toradora! yourself!

And so it continues.
We heft the cross of Strike Witches — a cross so weighty with teenage undergarments that even Zac Bertschy hasn’t energy enough to lambaste it thoroughly — yet again. But this time, we’ll have the aid of the stalwart OGT, who, being a sound strategist, seeks refuge in numbers.
Below, you’ll find my comments indicated by the red ani (兄) kanji, Otouto’s by the blue oto (弟), and OGT’s by — what else? — the green kame-o (かめ王).

Pardon my recent lack of connectivity. These things happen, I suppose.
But perhaps you might like to know what sorts of things I’ve been doing in my internet absence (still ongoing, at the moment). Yes, this is one of those posts, wherein the blogger simply provides a list of recent activities, but I’ll try to strain myself a bit and include some assorted thoughtful observations.

Every once in a while, two lines of inquiry collide in my head, and the resultant reaction inevitably takes some sensitive tissue with it. The questions that led to today’s post were: 1. if fandom is socially constructed like the rest of our personalities — if fandom is indeed part of one’s personality, and not a “mere” result of hobby choice — which of our discrete attributes incline us toward specific branches of (specifically anime/manga) fandom, and 2. what does Hikaru Ichijou see in Lynn Minmay, anyway?

I got the idea for this post while reading John Scalzi’s Old Man’s War, but knowledge thereof isn’t required, and I’ll try not to spoil it too badly. Suffice to say that I’ll mostly deal with that Japanese stuff I’m always on about, as it’s full of counterexamples to things Scalzi does that I don’t especially like.

We’ll have to skip the Brocast again this week, as I’m presently applying my speed-research talents to the completion of my term papers. But of course we won’t allow you to spend this Sunday devoid of the comforts we provide.
Sometimes, while working on homework, I start talking to Otouto-kun. This is almost always A Bad Idea. But, occasionally, we end up having conversations which are…if not insightful, then at least entertaining. And this is, after all, what the Pontifus and Otouto-kun vs. series is about — isn’t it?
Below, my dialogue is indicated by the red ani (兄) kanji, and Otouto’s is indicated by the blue oto (弟). Yes, we’re experimenting with different ways of indicating who speaks when. We’ll see how this works out.

Martin wrote a post on K-ON! that may warrant some consideration. This is not a criticism of Martin’s way of doing things; I quite enjoy his Mono no Aware, generally. This is, rather, an examination of certain assumptions in Martin’s post which may apply to many (particularly western) fans, an attempt to reveal these assumptions as cultural constructs, and my best guess at what that implies.

No Brocast today, as foretold. But because Sunday is now the official day of brotherly cooperation, I’ve decided to try to make some sense of our attempts to make sense of Strike Witches.
Bear in mind, though, that the text I’m analyzing here is that of our posts — it doesn’t represent everything said in the raw audio commentary by any means. You should consider this an analysis of what we thought was important enough to present coherently. And it’s not as though we’re employing advanced data mining software, so of course this is all terribly unscientific. But, who knows? It may be fun.
